Fundraising & Advocacy

One of the biggest hurdles during my college years was paying for tuition due to my immigration status. As a former undocumented student, I experienced firsthand what it felt like to crowdsource donations to pay for college tuition, books, and fees.
After graduation, I used these skills to help dozens of undocumented students in my position reach their fundraising goals through a partnership with GoFundMe, which allowed me to organize small-dollar pitches and storytelling campaigns.
Working in partnership with local organizations and bipartisan groups of lawmakers yielded transformative victories.

Throughout 2019, I worked closely with state advocacy organizations that sought to pass (or defeat) key pieces of legislation in the states of New York, Florida, and Colorado. In large part by creating digital toolkits, microsites for local business coalitions, and mass emails to thousands of constituents, we were successful in enacting two state laws that, to this day, have radically improved the lives of tens of thousands of immigrants.

By collaborating with national advocacy groups, unions, and non-profit organizations, I co-led a digital initiative that attracted over 74,501 unique visits to homeishere.us and engaged 1,255 grasstops leaders, from elected officials and religious leaders to business executives and university presidents. This coalition website offered high-quality content, digital resources, and reliable information for advocates nationwide, urging the U.S. Supreme Court to protect a deportation relief program that enables young immigrants to live and work in the country they consider home.

State campaigns relied heavily on a disciplined message that would reach key constituents in different counties, time zones, and ZIP codes.
This campaign required managing up to senior leadership, while securing top of the line outputs from consultants and contractors.

Here is what my team I were able to achieve in a couple of months to supplement grassroots efforts to push lawmakers to take up our position in three month sprints.

In Florida:
—> 1.2K constituent calls to legislators
—> 158K impressions via social
—> Defeated a state bill that woud have negatively impacted the state's economy and businesses.

In New York:
—> 27K total unique website page views
—> 1.5K calls to NY state legislators
—> Passed a bill that allows 265,000 undocumented New Yorkers will become eligible to apply for a state driver's license.
